Now Twenty really is Plenty for Hawthorn Grove!

The 20 mph and traffic calming scheme for Hawthorn Grove has been approved.  Construction of the traffic calming will begin after the contractor engaged by the Council has finished a school scheme, which will last for the next half term.

This scheme is the culmination of work by a good many people, including Nigel Dann and his group of residents at the western end of Hawthorn Grove and Peter Bailey, one of the Council’s  Traffic and Safety officers.

It’s about 4 years ago since Cherry, before she was a councillor, presented the results of a survey that she and Roger had carried out in Hawthorn Grove, to the Bath South Local Committee.  The survey was overwhelmingly in favour of some sort of traffic calming.  This followed the installation of the 20 mph scheme in neighbouring Queens Drive and Meare Road.  The Committee allocated funding for an advisory 20 mph speed limit.  The new Conservative Administration in 2007, abolished the committee and the funding was lost.

However, this seemed to make residents all the more determined and funding for a feasibility study for a full 20 mph scheme was obtained and once that had been completed further money was allocated for the scheme.  Additional to this there will be some funding from the St Andrews development to provide a crossing and raised table at the Sedgemoor Road junction.

Only part of the scheme can be implemented at present.  The full scheme includes restrictions for the whole length of Hawthorn Grove and for Sedgemoor Road.
