UpDate on Recycling Failure Post Christmas

by on 6 January, 2016

Recycling collections were delayed in Combe Down after Christmas and New Year, apparently due to the Council’s contractor experiencing  industrial action by staff. I have pushed for the collections to happen Asap, and I think most have been collected, but am disappointed  by the slow action of the Administration in dealing with this, and leaving residents to cope, without proper information. Let  me know if your recycling still has not been collected.

The following statement was issued by the Conservative Admonistration today:

“We have been advised that there is still ongoing industrial action by staff working for our recycling contractor Kier, in the form of an overtime ban. As a result of this, if you were due to have your recycling collected on Wednesday 6th January (including those re-scheduled from Tuesday 6th January) there may be some disruption to your recycling and food waste collections. If your recycling and food waste was scheduled for Wednesday 6th January and has not been collected please put it back out for collection tomorrow (Thursday 7th January).

Our recycling centres at Keynsham, Old Welton and Bath are open Monday – Friday 8am – 4.15pm. Facilities to recycle all of the materials collected as part of the kerbside recycling collections, including food waste are available at all three sites.

On behalf of our contractor we apologise sincerely for any inconvenience caused.”

We have in the past achieved a very good record of recycling, under the Liberal Democrats, and it is such an important factor for our environment, I hope the current Administration takes to heart the importance of building on the previous good record.

  1. No information on any council press release about why the work to rule. Apparently a promised pay rise did not materialise and Bath workers are paid less than those in Bristol. Chron didn’t pick this up either. Very poor.

Thanks Roger, I do feel the Council could have foreseen this, and made some plans, I will look into the pay issues, but not happy with the Council lack of concern, help for residents.
