The wonderful old Heritage red Telephone Box on Claverton Down Road in Combe Down, has been a landmark, and well loved icon. However for many years it had fallen into disrepair, and looked rather neglected.

Local Bath resident Joel Hirst, working with Ward Councillor Cherry Beath, had initiated contact with BT and asked for the box to be refurbished and given a coat of paint. Cllr Cherry Beath alerted BT Area Manager Paul Coles, who was very keen to to support and oversee the refurbishment Project. The work was completed in July this year.

Councillor Cherry Beath said;
“Residents had been in touch about this special Heritage Telephone Box, which was in need of some TLC.
I would like to thank BT for getting it restored to its former glory. It is delightful to spot these boxes in the area and indeed around the UK. I know of a wonderful one on the tiny Island of Bryher, in the Isles of Scilly, which is much loved.

I have to admit I am a fan. They are an iconic link to the past, in these days of more and more sophisticated mobile phones”

BT’s South West area Manager Paul Coles said ““It is great to be here celebrating the refurbishment of our Claverton Road box with Councillor Beath. Whether as working payphone or a converted library or a place to house a defibrillator, our heritage phone boxes are seen as such a central part to many communities up and down the South-West”

Joel Hirst commented; 
” I am really delighted to see the box restored, Going around the area and talking to folk, it was clear how fond people are of these splendid “yesteryear” historic Boxes. The box is great now, with working lights, and new paint. ”
