First few street names selected for Mulberry Park

by on 9 August, 2016

FullSizeRenderA number of residents and local groups sent in their suggestions to Curo and the Council on the choice of the first few principal street names.

There had been a suggestion of Mulberry Avenue, and I did speak with a few local people who were concerned this could be confusing with “The Avenue” Combe Down, which was accepted as sensible, to change it to Mulberry Way.

The other names are to commemorate local boys who lived nearest to the Foxhill site and who were killed in WW1. You will recognise the name Patch, Harry Patch, being the last fighting Tommy, who died in 2011, his cousin Fred Patch was killed in WW1 too.

William Chivers lived at Greendown Cottages, and died in November 1917 aged 19. His father became the engineer to the Combe Down Waterworks.

Herbert Windell was the son of the local baker in Lansdown View, who was the delivery boy for his father’s business. He was killed in April 1917 aged 23.

In due course there will be more roads needing names. Over the next year we will be seeing homes and roads developed. buses will go into the site once there are a number of homes occupied.
